This year we will be visiting the line between Salford and Wigan, full details and itinery were published in Magazine 234.
There are plenty of stations with many L&Y features still open and with easy access on this line built 1885-9. By the time you’ve finished you’ll be fed up of yellow brick. Remaining features are mostly stations but the value is in working out how the L&Y solved the various site problems using standardised designs and let the line flow through the countryside in huge curves (a bit like motorway design of today).
Meet at Gloucester Street off the A576 Broughton Road in Salford (grid ref 814996) from 10.30am.
