Signalling (3)

This brick based 80 lever L&Y box was squeezed onto the viaduct between Salford and Manchester Victoria. It opened in 1894 and was photographed in 1917.

 

Electric-pneumatic
At the other end of the scale was this Saxby & Farmer lever frame of 1874. Located at Clifton Junction it was replaced in 1901 by a brick built box.
